The Coronal Polishing course is an approved program by the Dental Board, designed for unlicensed Dental Assistants aiming to obtain their RDA. Upon completing this course, participants will receive a certificate in Coronal Polishing.

This course consists of two sessions:

**Session One:** A 4-hour online training module. This training must be completed prior to attending Session Two.

**Session Two:** After passing a written exam, students will engage in hands-on training for coronal polishing techniques using a typodont/manikin. This lab experience will cover essential skills such as fulcrum techniques, proper polishing methods, the correct application of materials, and handpiece control. Additionally, students will perform coronal polishing on three patients—two timed and one untimed. The session will conclude with a final exam, requiring a passing score of 75% or higher.

Candidates are responsible for providing three patients who meet the following criteria:

- Must be 18 years or older.
- Free of calculus.
- Have moderate plaque.
- Not currently wearing any orthodontic appliances (including permanent or fixed retainers).

Students must adhere to the following requirements:

- Bring protective eyewear; gloves and masks will be provided.
- Communicate effectively in English.
- Be 18 years of age or older.
- Hold qualifications as a Dental Assistant eligible for the RDA exam. The DA must submit copies of the following with their registration:
- Current CPR card (AHA or ARC)
- California 8-hour Infection Control Certificate

Students are required to complete the online training and pass all quizzes before attending Session Two. Please dress in scrubs, keep hair pulled back above the collar, and avoid wearing open-toed footwear.
