Effective January 1, 2025, the Dental Board of California mandates that all unlicensed dental assistants, including sterilization assistants, complete a Board-approved 8-hour infection control course before engaging in any basic supportive dental procedures that might involve exposure to blood, saliva, or other potentially infectious materials. Additionally, a course in the California Dental Practice Act, also approved by the Dental Board, is required.
The 8-hour certification course comprises 4 hours of online learning followed by 4 hours of hands-on laboratory and clinical instruction. Students must finish the online training and quizzes prior to attending the in-person class. A certificate will be awarded upon successful completion.
**This program is comprehensive. The only items you need to bring are scrubs, closed footwear, and keep your hair tied back.
IMPORTANT: All participants must be at least 18 years old, except for those taking the 8-Hour Infection Control Course.
